Description:
Gomi created this strange and obscure Entropy Tarot based upon the idea of entropy in physics, a measure of the degree of chaos and disorder in a physical system. The second law of thermodynamics states that the entropy of physical processes always increases. Gomi wanted us to focus on reducing the entropy, the degree of chaos in our lives. Perhaps he had read the 1944 book 'What is Life?' by quantum physicist Erwin Schrödinger who argued that life and human beings, through organising matter, have a need to reduce entropy. The imagery of his cards is enigmatic, but incorporates Feynman diagrams (the loops and arrowed lines), which were devised to represent the complex interplay of quantum mechanical processes, which are related directly to entropy. The imagery of this deck is arcane and impenetrable, but it incorporates and reflects back to us the physics of the 1980s.
