I don't know how it happened but my two versions of Temperance came up in the wrong place - sorry Adam. I think I clicked 'New Topic' by mistake.  Can they be moved or shall I edit them out and put them here?

Here are the two versions of Temperance (in the right place!) - both need a little more work.

"You know I had to look at them side by side before I could choose.  Initially I liked the other one too, but in the end I decided I liked this one.  Blue/violet is my favorite color, so I tend towards that one, but I think the details of the card show up better with the lighter background.

OK, I looked at them again.  I still like #1 best, but the #2 makes the central design stand out more, and #1 emphasises the woman's head more.  So I guess it depends on which is more important to you.

The more I look at them, the more I'm amazed.  wow"

"This one but they are both stunning :)"

truelighth said: (of #2)

"I like this one the most too. And wow, you already made your card! And so gorgeous too.. I agree with Nicole, both are beautiful."

Jackdaw said: (of #2)

"They're both beautiful, but I prefer this one too."

BlueToy said: (of #2)

"I like this better too. The purple BG somehow has a nice, "heavier" feel than the other one.

I have to say, I really really like the overlapping levels in this work. And the bird detail's just really cute :D"

I've tried to tidy up the muddle by putting the images where they belong and copying and pasting the comments on each one - thanks people.

That's fabulous Demien! Deceptively simple (design-wise) and quite startling (I like to be startled by a tarot image) to see for the first time. I love it!

WOW it looks like this new deck's going to look real good. I like that wheel card. Very apt, actually. I can very much relate to it, especially because the local word for fate/fortune here's the same word for palm (probably the pre-Hispanic, Indian influence).

Hi Pen

Love your Temperance..its beautiful and so unusual. I prefer the darker purple background.

Can't believe you are so quick and efficient! Will have to get my skates on now.

Have been away and now catching up on the posts but cant find the post re the border and card wording Pen, think its thin black border with name of card in any style on bottom of card. Is that right?

Thanks Pen

Hi Blue Bubble,

Thanks for the feedback re. Temperance - it seems that the purple background's the one.

Re. the card backgrounds - I think they're provisonally black, but I understood that all that's needed from the artists is the image, as the backgrounds and text will probably all be done at the same time by whoever does the formatting (to keep everything consistent). Looking forward to your Fool!

Thanks also for the feedback Blue Bubble. As for the borders, like what Pen said, they're just provisionary. I think I read somewhere in the other thread that the images themselves have to be 2.5 by 3.75 or something with a similar ratio.

Hi, here is my Empress.  I'm still a bit shy and in awe of the true artists that are contributing to this.  This is at least my own photo that I took while on vacation.  I had to size it down to a low enough resolution to be able to attach it but I hope you get the idea.  She evokes the serenity and terror of creation for me, timeless, above reproach, protective and, well, older than dirt.

Love it !

Here are a PRELIMINARY set of threes; I am in the process of changing the pents and the wands as we speak.... but the backgrounds remain as is.

ETA - now amended. As far as I know, this is THEM, the end.

Starting work on the minors I signed up for also.  Here is my Page of Cups.  My page is a bit in the cups but I loved the jolly 'look into the abyss and the abyss looks back' feeling on this one.  After all, Shakespeare wrote for our hearts, our consciences and our subconscious.

Wow!

Gregory: Good series. The pics you took especially for the swords and cups are perfect for the cards.

Marcia: Those are pretty powerful images you took. I like the empress and page of cups most. The empress is especially fitting because of the ancient feel. The page cups is just really wonderfully startling (if a bit creepy:D).

La Luna: Cool cups! What's that cup beside the blue one called? I mean, is it particularly famous? It looks interesting...

Amazing !!! All these images suddenly appearing at once! We're picking up speed - can't wait for more - well done everyone. I'm wondering now if I should go more photographic rather than painterly in order to blend in...

This is what i know of it its called a Nautilus cup (Silver gilt, nautilus shell, glass and enamel, 27 cm high, diameter 10 cm) from +/- 1592 and is part of the collection of the "Gemeente Musea, Delft" (The Netherlands)

Bella Luna, la Luna :D Pixie's all mysterious here.
-----

I'm uploading a working version of the Queen of Swords. I hope I can still change her arm position and add perhaps a severed head... I was rooting for cloud-effects since it's her element but she ended up a bit too dreamy for her own divinatory good.

Omg, so many people already finished their cards. I still  have to start. I got some ideas, but actually putting them into action....:f

Anyway, La-Luna that Moon is gorgeous! I really like that you used Pixie in that card! And BlueToy, your queen is also lovely again. I wish I could make art like you do!

Exactly, Gregory, I'm with you.  I'm no painter and am in awe of those who are.  These are just wonderful!  I'm so excited to see what everyone has.  This is going to be a brilliant deck!

OK here's my Page of Swords, the fly on the wall, the spy who blends in whose motives are uncertain, whose loyalties may be purchased...and betrayed.

All wonderful and surprising images - I love the little 'sets' of cards - a glimpse of each artist and complete in themselves. Glad I'm not the only one who's painting though...

Nice discorporation on the QoC. Cool page of swords too... is that a Modigliani scuplture?! 9 Pents: the mer-goat goes well with the fountain theme.

Same here. But it's wonderful seeing the variety of mediums and styles so far. Makes things seem more alive. Talking of painting, here's a thought: has anyone invite Ciro already?! Would love to see his work in this new project.

AND finally, here's my last card for the project. I was on a roll with experimenting, though this still ended up as a pleasant surprise. 8 of Wands:

Lots more wows ! and Morwenna - I LOVE that strength in particular; don't feel intimidated. You wait till you see my remaining two - now that I have no camera for a while (I lost the one I was lent, having  left my own in Canada....) things are getting DEEPLY creative, and not in a good way.... :sd

Don't they all look good together so far? :)

(And just as a disclaimer, that's not the border/layout in the final thing. I just wanted to see how they'd look together as cards. ;) )

(Transferred the images to the first page so they won't be as much a bother when you're reading the thread)

Ok after seeing everyone's cards I feel like returning my diploma from kindergarten.

My first go at the 6S is already making me insane.... I have been going nuts trying to make what I saw in my mind.. I wanted end of a roller coaster which then led me to attempt a water ride; but going through the public domain art gave me virtually no rides where the people/boat/car were facing away which I liked...

so here is a first attempt while I try and fiddle more with my new photoshop program.

I've corrected the typos already hee hee I think what made the cards seem real-er was the slight yellowing in the border (just realized, it reminds me of the old Mythic!).

That looks very good, especially since this was a first attempt! Dark and all. :)

Ha ha yes very fitting for the Sun card. Also, and somehow, I get a 90s feel (which isn't a bad thing).

Offering an 8 of Pentacles since it was recently orphaned.  If someone has one they like better, no worries.

O but the ban has been lifted in (as far as i know) all countries, there are "recreations" using authentic recepes, and others make modern interpretations of this godly beverage (or is it the devils work :gi).

One of the nicer and comercially well doing modern absinthes is made by Marylin Manson (the singer/shock rocker/public figure...) go figure ...:c

Cool new cards. I have no issue with Marcia taking the 8 of pents, that's a wonderful thing she did. And la Luna's is just inspired. I wonder if we should all start drinking Absinthe now... :D

No quarrel with that - but could you make the images less wide; they aren't half making it hard work to read posts - scrolling across the page is a pain in the ****.

Maybe 3 cards wide, say - or fewer pixels across ?

(OH MAN - I needed to edit my spelling and it was a mile long scroll.....:cl)

Changed Judgement's spelling to its present form, and I'll be updating my first post in this thread instead. That way, the latest page of the thread won't get too crowded with the images. I also made them so they'll upload in groups of sixes, with a 3 card width, so as not to stretch the reading area like last time. So far cards up to Nicole's Ace of Cups are included. Please tell me if I missed out on a card.

Demian, your High Priest is terrifying and awesome...:ro

Nicole, it depends if you want the dove flying into the scene or out of it - the first  feels just right in that respect. The position of the cup is better in the second uploaded image, but perhaps they're the same and the image was simply slightly overcropped in the first? Great Ace though...:ro

High Priest is wonderful, scary and thrilling, wow, awesome

Nicole, How about keeping the dove and cup/hand as they are now, an mirroring the waterfall?

I have gotta get to work!

I think these understated borders and titling are just great, and maybe all that's needed.

Wow, my goooosh everyone! I had to take a break from the Forum to catch up on some deadlined projects and came to find all this incredibly wonderful art here. You all just inspire the bejeezes out of me. It blows me away seeing  all this great art together like this, such vivid imagery, potent symbology, its just incredibly inspirational. I don't know where to begin...but you've got me all jazzed to work on my cards now everyone. I'll do that this week and once I figure out how to upload my 2 cards I'll feel a lot better.
I am very moved by all your wonderful cards you guys! It’s truly a thrill and privilege to be a part of this deck!
Warmest wishes,
Arnell

I'm fiddling around with a photo I took in a museum in Martinez, California while on a  ghost hunt.  They say this room is haunted but I didn't see anything except these 6 cups.  At least, that's all I remember.

Very cool! Did you think about maybe making the cups a little bit bigger(to scale), and placing them in interesting places within the photo - one in her hand, one on the toy platform, one on top of the chalkboard, etc.  These are just my ramblings...I love it the way it is too!:bl

I did and may play around with it some more.  When it came out like this, I decided I liked this as a possibility because the cups appear to be spinning in a circle at Dollie's command like bees or something.  Hmm, somehow reminiscent of my own childhood.  Thanks for the suggestion.  Will post if I come up with something cool.

Such a beautiful card Marcia. I love the nostalgic feel of it…I had a set of miniature teacups like that when I was a kid. It’s a perfect image for the 6 of Cups…I really resonate with it. Everyone is doing such a great job, I’m so impressed. I’ve been working on my 10 of Swords. Almost ready…

Warmly,

And again I apologize Skad1 and to everyone...I feel badly, forgive my bad manners.
I will go sit in the corner for at least 15 minutes.

Yikes, I did NOT mean to make anyone feel bad!  Now I feel bad (as I go crawl into my corner to cry:sd)  You really don't know what the response will be to a new idea until it happens, ya know?  I don't think it was bad manners, just a neat idea that took off.  I've asked Adam to move the stuff from this tread to the new one, but I don't know if he can or not.  I hope so.

But you can go to your corner for 15 minutes, a 15 minute break sounds really good to me right now.  :D  Why does everyone need something at once, and while you're trying to find out information for one person, someone else thinks their emergency has to solved right away.  Once that's done, you think about getting to the stuff that you thought was important in the first place.   :f

Thanks Skad1, for your sweet note and your patient understanding.

Well I think I'm pretty much ready with this as my 10 of Swords... It's my first time to post an image on a Forum so hope this goes according to plan...
Thanks again!

Thank you very much Nicole,

I really appreciate your thoughtful feedback, goes straight to my heart. xo

I didn't get a chance to mention earlier as I rushed to catch up with you guys but I really liked your 6 of Swords Nicole. You were able to convey that intense, barely escapeing the storm feeling and mood very well there. Your Sun card is adorable, so warm and full of happy vibes! And I much prefer your 2nd version of Ace of cups with the larger chalice and dove on the right side (moving closer towards the future, at least that's how I see it to mean)...we need that PEACE sooner rather than later huh? Its a lovely tranquil setting. All great cards Nicole!

The card-ed images updated till Arnell's 10 of Swords.

Nicole, I was wrong. The Monet card does look perfect as it is (now that I see it in card form).

Arnell, that 10 of swords looks really polished. I hope you don't mind me toying with it to make a temporary back design. But maybe for the actual cards, we'll use OnePotato's design from last year, if he allows that. :)

If we are to be printing the minors at home (which remains one possibility, I think ?) OnePotato's design is perfect as you don't have to line it up.... I am printerfully terminally challenged when it comes to lining up.... Also it can be done on one side of the card on a monoprinter (I am VERY devoted to last year's deck, and printed my own user-friendly (laminated !!!)  copy, so that I can't do anything awful to the deck...)

Yes Skad and I were thinking the same thing. That design was pretty clever actually. I hope he allows us to use it. As for home printing the minors, well, Skad might have a little surprise to tell us *wink* but I think we still should get printable digital copies of the whole deck, so we can at least print more... dessication-resistant copies at home for rough, tough tarot work. :D

It doens't need to be rough and tough for me to.....

Coffee is a terrible thing.

Beer is worse.......

And OnePotato's back was inspired ! I LOVE it ! It should be like the Museo's standard back - OUR back !

JUST LOVE YOUR CARD! Getting rather worried as you all so very clever at the digitally thingy's - I just paint!

Rather concerned that I am going to be the only one with a painted illustrative card! Think mine might spoil the flow of the deck.

Help!

No chance - there were several painted last time. Digital is faster and you don't need to go out and buy supplies !

Love your card, by the way, Arnell.

Very stylish too. That's a good idea using it a standard. Makes it our own "brand" or something, like a logo. :)

Mine are painted too - in inks on scraper board - so you're not alone!  (I'm going to add a star or two to Temperance in Photoshop though ).

Arnell, your 10 of Swords is just amazing and fantastic!! :ro

Mine will probably be drawings or something. Not sure yet. Last time I worked with pastels. And possibly one will be a photograph.

Anyway, diversity is what makes a deck like this so nice!

At last my 2 of Cups is finished - it was the first card i started on but the last to get finished.
It is a wish, a vision of a past that will never be, because it involves someone that i dearly loved but that passed away recently.

Arnell, that 10 of swords looks really polished. I hope you don't mind me toying with it to make a temporary back design. But maybe for the actual cards, we'll use OnePotato's design from last year, if he allows that. :)

Thank you Blue Toy. Wow, the cards look so beautiful how you have them all cozy in their frames like that and with their lovely fonts and all. Very stylish, really! Thanks for doing that and for all the behind the scenes stuff you guys are doing (Skad1, Blue Toy et all) to make this come together so beautifully and smoothly (printing specs, lwb everything!) I actually really like the way you practiced with my card for the backs Blue Toy. Would be fun for me if we used that card the way you have it but I also really like your friend One Potato's backs and realize not to mention, that a two toned back is a lot more cost effective too.

Blue Toy I didn't get a chance to say before but I am really liking your card contributions. I especially clicked with your 8 of Wands. Perfect! Tho your Queen of Swords is also a great depiction.

Thanks,
Arnell

Blue Bubble dear,
I am most anxious to see your Fool card, as I so love the way you paint...that's why I begged ya to be in this deck doncha know?! You have many fans of your art here. Looking forward to seeing your card for this deck (and...not to mention, your own deck getting published.) Good luck with your Fool card, I know it will be fabulous!

Arnell:

Thank you Gregory!
Yeah...I really wish I could draw or paint as artists like Pen and Blue Bubble do. I'd prolly give up Photoshop if I could...but on the other hand, I don't think digital art is necessarily faster than traditional art, at least not for obsessive types like me. I can spend days sometimes on one image tho probably only I can see all the work in it. And my son can whip up an amazing, finely detailed drawing in a couple hours...not fair!! I do enjoy the creative process and meditation of digital art but wish I could just create from my mind's eye like traditionalists do...ya know? But I'm with you on not having to buy the art supplies. That's a big plus!

I adore your Knight of Cups! Its gorgeous and dreamy...really wonderful. And your Knight of Swords is tres cool too. You amaze me Pen. Your Temperance - especially the one with the purple-ish background is divine! It really pops with that dark contrast, and its a very touching image of Temperance. Not a card I resonate with in most decks, but yours is very special.

I am very sad to hear you have lost someone so close my dear Stefan...your 2 of cups is a beautiful meditation and tribute.
I was also quite taken with your Moon card, I like to think of Pamela being our dreamy, shimmering, elusive, mystical Moon.  I also love that wonderful 7 of cups... Its such a pleasure being a part of this deck and sharing in everyone's art, seeing it evolve like this...so many cool cards!

Yes, a lovely card, made especially poignant by knowing a little of how it came to be created. The card will be a vision made tangible.

Hi Arnell

Thanks for your kind words. The Fool is 95% finished, but need the help of my daughter in law to put on Tarot Collectors site! Sad I know, but not good with pixy thingies!

Very excited, had the first set of sample cards from my printer for The Hezicos Tarot I am like a child in a sweet shop can't stop me know. Hoping to get my deck out there in the next two months, and thank you all for your encouragement, means so much.

The Fool will see you all soon.

Love and light

Since my Mom had an (unrealized) dream of being married in an enchanting setting, for the 4 of Wands, I transported my parents to a lovely Cathedral in Italy. My sister would prolly kill me if she saw that I made us the fat little cherubs hovering above whilst waiting to be born. 4 Sunflower stalks adding a bit of Wands energy to a rather Waite-Smith inspired scene.

This is my final card for our deck. And if it’s okay with Skad1 and Blue Toy, I will send my 2 completed cards as 300 dpi tiffs in the 3 x 4.5 size to Blue Toy? Thanks again for doing all that work for us. This is such a fun project. I’m looking forward to seeing all the cards!!

Well, not any sooner than the cards, I guess.  Especially now that I posted the note about "a few" words, "limited space" and "fit into 2.5 x 3 space"  or something like that.

And we do have ALMOST 2 months to finish.  I liked it better when it was over 2 months, even that one day when I said we had 2 months.  But now it's only ALMOST 2 months!

Arnell, wonderful card! I also like the story behind it. It is cool that you could put your parents in a church this way. When I see this card, I will always think about your story.:ok

And totally unrelated to the cards:

I dunno, Gregory. But when reading this while seeing your avatar, I got this image of a blue cat being all entangled in a piece of rope, while trying to free itself. The cat it that vision being you of course...:cl

Do you live half year in each country?  Doesn't that feel schizophrenic? :?  With whatever you are looking for being across 'the pond'.

Now about that rope....at first I pictured a piece of animated rope that was tickling you when you weren't looking.  Of course, as soon as you looked at it, it became a plain un-animated rope.  Think snake charmer type rope, with a sense of humor.  Then I thought "rope, oh dear!"  Then I thought of boy scouts and their talent for knots....  Then I thought I better get back to work!

I love that important people are being memorialized in our deck.  The cards so far have been really awesome, but the personal touches really add something special.

Maybe next years deck could be "The Tarot Collectors Forum's People deck"  or "The People of the Tarot Collectors Forum" .

Yes Gregory, NEXT YEARS!  aka 2010 wow. 2010 who'd of thought?

Not half exactly - but a lot of time over in Canada - and schizzy yes - but not for that reason - and I am getting better at it. But the dial up is just AWFUL, I confess !

I think I will go deal with that rope and post something....

Great card, btw! I like how the man seems to be transparant with the waterfall shining through... how did you do that? But... ehmmm.. I am wondering.. is he bungie-jumping or trying to dive in that waterfall? Or is it my imagination again? :v

Thanks all. Truelighth - I can tell you how I did that by PM if you REALLY want to know.

I INTENDED (!!!!!) him to be trying to dive in to something and being held back by something.... and needing to hang there to work it all out....

And damn me if someone hasn't seen my issue with the rope too.... more work needed I guess :?

Ehmm.. I don't think I really need to know. But it is cool! And yes, I was thinking he was diving into that waterfall and being held back. Btw.. bungie-jumping is also a way to be held back.. you just bounce and bounce... lol! :cl

Anyway, I think the message does come across.. to me at least.

I would think so. Your new rope looks more... like a real rope.. if you know what I mean. It works very well. I like the fact that it is thicker at the top of the card. And that it really has rope colour and blends in more with the nature.:ok

PC - none. Though I can always convert the final thing to MAC (I think!) if that's what the press needs. Good Hanged Man, by the way. I think I updated the "card" image list using your old one. I shall change that tomorrow.

Problem is, I like all versions... :fBut I will post them soon... I hope!

Here it is at last.  Sorry to be so slow but in the last 12 months (come Thursday) since my Dad died, my mother has had a series of falls.  She's managed to break both thighs, each on separate occasions, fracture a vertebra, and maybe (still awaiting results), a rib.  I'll her busy nurse.  Oh, and I had knee surgery just over a week ago.  Big deal.  Just too busy for anything much.

Nicole,

Seeing your first 6 of swords so often as your avatar is having an odd effect - I'm liking it more and more (and more and more)! In fact I think I love it now. A little bit of genius went into its making methinks...! We should have them both...:D

Mythos, your card is beautiful! So sorry to hear your mum has been so poorly, lets hope she makes a speedy recovery.

I am so amazed that you have found it within you to create such a lovely card when you have had to deal with so many other issues around you.

Take care

Mythos, I love the card. And you are not slow at all... I only just started with my cards and there are plenty of people who haven't. And considering all the other things that keep you occupied, I think you did a great job!:ro

I always love your art. You got some great insights :kt

Sorry - VERY dull -  it is just the branch of a tree that had already turned.... The leaves are yellow; the other trees around are either evergreens or later to change colour....

Funny, but looking at the close-up, I was already thinking it more looks like leaves that already had turned. Of course I didn't think I was right...figures... lol.

Pen dear,
Your 5 of Wands is pulsating with energy. I can feel the friction and intensity...amazing how you do that with just the right light, lines and color. A potent 5 of Wands if ever I did see one!

Hi BlueBubble, it's acrylic on canvas board, an experiment from the time I was playing around with fire (in paint only...!)

Thanks for the thumbs up everyone - it can always be kept until we're nearer printing so there will still be cards available for anyone who wants one. Funny and fairly predictable the ones that are left...

Here's is my Emperor.  I hope it fits well with the deck, all the cards thus far are so wonderful and I am honored to be in the company of this group.

I was inspired by a song called The Crow and the Butterfly by Shinedown.  The image is of the Japanese Emperor Jimmu.  He is thought to be a descendant of the sun goddess Amaterasu.  According to legend, she gave him 3 symbols of power: a jewel, a sword and a mirror.  It is said he may be a myth, but is known as the legendary first emperor of Japan.

Please listen to the song...it's very nice:

http://www.imeem.com/jukeboxmusic5/music/-UoqMez2/shinedown-the-crow-the-butterfly-album-version/

Here is the words, which mean a lot to me...the Emperor's in my life come and go, but maybe it's because I am always chasing something that's not meant for me, like the crow chasing a butterfly...and my mind is lingering somewhere between legend and myth about what a true Emperor should really be...

I painted your room at midnight
So I'd know yesterday was over
I put all your books on the top shelf
Even the one with the four leaf clover

Man, I'm getting older
I took all your pictures off the wall
And wrapped them in a newspaper blanket
I haven't slept in what seems like a century
And now I can barely breathe

Just like a crow chasing the butterfly
Dandelions lost in the summer sky
When you and I were getting high as outer space
I never thought you'd slip away
I guess I was just a little too late

Your words still serenade me
Your lullabies won't let me sleep
I've never heard such a haunting melody
Oh, it's killing me
You know I can barely breathe

Just like a crow chasing the butterfly
Dandelions lost in the summer sky
When you and I were getting high as outer space
I never thought you'd slip away
I guess I was just a little too late

Just like a crow chasing the butterfly
Dandelions lost in the summer sky
When you and I were getting high as outer space
I never thought you'd slip away

Like a crow chasing the butterfly
Dandelions lost in the summer sky
When you and I were getting high as outer space
I never thought you'd slip away
I guess I was just a little too late

Just a little too late

Hugs to all, Gayla

Update: I fixed it...:)

Ambriel, your Emperor has a lot of strength around him and the writing with him was lovely. I love the free use of colour, there is such flow with your image. He is strong, yet has a kind face, which I feel the Emperor should have. I also love the images of the birds, very striking. Great card!

Thank you Arnell and Blue Bubble...your compliments mean a lot to me because I am a fan of both of your work.

I just realized I wasn't suppose to the name or number on the card...I'll have to go back and do something about that...photoshop it or something...and I apologize for not paying attention.

The colors were not laying as well as I had hoped...as I am such an amateur and know nothing to little about what I am doing when it comes to art... :D

Ambriel dear,
If you saw one of my drawings you would both giggle uncontrollably and realize you actually do draw well. I'm serious!
I like the coloring of your Emperor and his strong stance contrasted with his sweet face. He looks both powerful and gentle. Nice work Ambriel.
PS: And thanks for the kindly kudos, that's so nice to hear. Take good care.
Warmest wishes,
Arnell

How this thread has grown since yesterday - or was it the day before?

Gregory, Mythos, thanks for the lovely words. It's odd how I always felt that the images in a deck should have a very unifying element before taking part in this project, now I feel free enough not only to celebrate all the differences in the images so far, but to offer something very different from my other work.

Gayla,  love your Emperor and all the meaningful elements that went into his conception and creation. The arrangement of shapes and colours works so beautifully, and the song being special to you makes the card extra special too.

This last week I've been working on my cards. I am still not sure which version of the 8 of swords I am gonna use, so that one will come later. And I need to change the 4 of swords again :?.

But in any case, here is Justice!

I have to admit, I was a bit unsure if I should submit it like this, since it is actually just a photograph that I took. I am not so sure if it is good enough/ if it works. So I would love  to hear some feedback on it.

This particular statue is situated on the side of the old city hall in the town where I was born. The city hall dates from 1688. The city hall and particulary this statue is special to me.  I always thought, if ever I am doing the Justice card for a deck, I will use this one.

I always think of Justice as card very much connected to real life and society. This statue kinda represents Justice as we see it in the real world.  It is not perfect, like the statue is all weathered. But it is very much part of reality and the world we live in. I also believe that the Justice card carries a lot of our history in it, and I kinda hope that is also represented by this image. I also wanted to include the brick stones of the wall in the image, to show how real and old it is.

But as I just wrote, I am doubting. Anyway, here it is:

Truelighth, your photo makes a great Justice card - instantly recognisable and with the idea of being somewhat aged and not quite perfect felt, rather than overstated. A big   :ro

Pen

PS. Funny, but I never noticed before that the emoticon with two thumbs up is just meant to convey 'that's OK', rather than 'Great!', or even 'Right On' like the little ghostie thing with one thumb up. Looking at them I'd have reckoned them about equal. Hmmmm...

Thanks Pen and Gregory. I guess I was just a bit uncertain, because it is 'just' a photograph.  I kinda felt I should do more about it, tweak it, make it even more my own. Maybe use some filters.. whatever. Even though I especially went out to and took about 20 photo's to get this one, so that should count for effort. And yeah, I am a perfectionist, always setting high standards for myself...:f:cc

And gosh, I never realized there was a difference between the :ok and the :ro. I just use both of them at random to let people know I like what I see.

Dear Truelighth,
I think this is a great image of Justice, both that she is a bit weathered and worn down in time and also how we may feel about Justice sometimes...that it is a noble ideal offered to us from a very long time ago but which feels perhaps a bit distant and hard to attain in the day to day injustices that we experience and read about in the news and politics. I may be rambling here...this cold medicine I'm taking has me feeling fuzzy brained...but in other words I find your Justice card to be very fitting and hits the mark in tone and mood... Thanks for sharing a bit of background on this image too.
Warmly,
Arnell

I like that idea, Nicole. The horse as a tractor. Very fitting too for the Knight of Pentacles! :ro

And Arnell, thank you for your warm words. Yes, indeed, you are right on. Justice is a noble idea passed down from the past, but seldom seen these days with all the injustices and things going on. Would you mind if I use that in my LWB description?

I am also glad to share a bit of the history of this image. The town where I was born is very old (founded around 1000 AD I think) and has some lovely old buildings, though few. This is one of them.

No, not Leiden, Gregory . I live in Leiden now, but that is not where I was born and raised.

The city hall is in the town called Naaldwijk, in the Netherlands. It is a town in the middle of the triangle between The Hague, Rotterdam and Hook of Holland. In the center of what we in the Netherlands call "The Westland" (where they grow lots of flowers in greenhouses that are exported all over the world. They also call it the "Glass city" due to the many greenhouses.. so yeah, I come from the greenhouse county :cl).

Nicole,
I like your tractor-driving Knight of Pentacles…and how you have the pentacle disk as a hubcap for the wheel too, nice touch! Very earthy. And not to mention, the impressive ‘head gear’ he’s wearing there.  :)

Thank you Truelighth, I am touched by your warmth…of course I would be honored if you decided to use any of my sentiments for the LWB write-up regarding your wonderful Justice card.

Have you tried flattening/merging all the layers before saving as TIFF? (BUT save a copy of the "layered" PSD version first, so you can still edit it in the future) That would generally decrease the size. I'm saying this because the TIFF files Arnell and Truelight sent were pretty small (2-3 megs). But, anyway, if its still too big, then, well, very high-resolution JPEG is ok (for quality, choose maximum - 12 in Photoshop). :)

us artist types just are too ethereal for all this techy stuff LOLOL

OH yes - I had already saved as max res jpgs in Photoshop; I did merge the layers first (obviously) - should I have flattened them first ?? It was those merged jpgs I tiffed.....

Anyway - I will go back into the psd files (save first ? does anyone ever NOT ????? and why do we not have a wink smiley ??)  and try flattening layers as well... and if not....

Hello all :)  I'm enjoying working on the pips and here is my Two of Swords.    I created this card using Microsoft Powerpoint.

The yellow carnation is the flower of rejection and refusal.  Many times when we feel guarded we will reject and refuse to acknowledge a the truth.  This is not something someone does intentionally, but the perception of someone in this state is sometimes misunderstood by others.

The color black in the background represents the fear and uncertainty which develops from shielding ourselves from the truth.

The triple moon symbol is meant to remind the seeker it may be time to banish the blindness and send those feelings away.

Just a reminder. The resolution of the images you have to submit to me have to be 300 (or higher) dpi or pixels/inch. Low-resolution (like 72 dpi) might look ok in your monitors, but they will eventually look pixellated in print.

If you use Photoshop, you can check this by going to image in the bar at the top, and then going to image size. It should show the height and width in inches and the resolution in pixels/inch.

Ambriel dear,

Thank you for sharing the symbolic meaning and thoughts behind your lovely 2 of Swords card. It’s a wonderful addition to this deck and I appreciate knowing what it means...I had no idea yellow carnations meant rejection. Is that a universal meaning or attached to a culture in particular?

It is in my Language of Flowers book which came from a VERY cheap shop for 99 cents, so I am guessing it must be pretty standard !!!

Warmly, Arnell

I'm not sure if its universal or not...good question.

There are tons of site with the meaning listed...here's one.

http://www.feldis.com/s/meaning.htm

I grew up in North Alabama...a very rural, country area and carnations are generally used in flower arrangements placed on caskets and graves....very large arrangements of all different colors...

I've travelled all over the world and never observed this practice anywhere else but in the southeast of the USA.

Everyone's cards are so amazing...I love what folks are doing with Photoshop...I only have the Standard version, which does next to nothing.

Anyway, here is my 7 of Pentacles.  Drawn and Colored with magic markers. :)

I thought this poem fit it well because it is a card of reflection and taking pause....

Ah Sunflower by William Blake

Ah Sunflower, weary of time,
Who countest the steps of the sun;
Seeking after that sweet golden clime
Where the traveller's journey is done;

Where the Youth pined away with desire,
And the pale virgin shrouded in snow,
Arise from their graves, and aspire
Where my Sunflower wishes to go!

Hugs to all, Ambriel

A fabulous 7 of Pentacles Ambriel, nice going there! I'm pondering the poem...

And thank you for the explanation and link regarding your 2 of Swords and yellow carnations. Most interesting. Wonderful work, this deck is gonna be so special!

Ok, this card has been ready for weeks. But I couldn't decide which version worked best. They were only minor differences between the versions, but I am just a perfectionist I guess :f

Anyway, presenting the 8 of Swords. I have decided to go with the meaning of the card for this one. But then with a new twist.

The 8 of Swords traditionally stands for feeling stuck, trapped, unable to move, not having free will, being a prisoner and feeling a victim.

In my personal life I recently experienced a period where I was feeling that way and it occured to me I was feeling like a living Marionette. Not free to move of my own free will, feeling trapped and feeling very much like a victim.  :cc

Fortunally I don't feel that way right now anymore. But I wanted to convey that feeling in this card.

Wow! Another surprise! Love it! The hands are working so elegantly and are just right, the puppet girl breathes despair and lack of power from every limb - clever you...    :ro

Truelighth, this image works so well because it is black and white adding to the dimension of the meaning. So strong, quite amazing. I too have been in that place and your drawing certainly reached me.

All the responses to my 8 of Swords have been so positive, that I want to respond to all of them:

Thank you, Pen. Coming from you, I see it as a great compliment! Made me smile to read your post.

I am so glad that this worked out the way I wanted to. Like you said, the girl breathers despair and lack of power from every limb. That is what I was going for.

I actually found the picture of the girl on the internet, but of course I couldn't use it. But it clicked so much with what I wanted for this card, I decided to draw her myself. With some alterations of course. And also the 8 strings (corresponding to the 8 of swords). For drawing the hands I had the example of an ad for a puppetteer museum. It was a tiny little picture, but the hands looked so nice and alive on there that I thought they would work well.

gregory wrote:

Thanks Gregory . I was really setting out for a different kind of 8 of Swords then the usual ones. Guess that worked. :hp

Arnell wrote:

Thank you, Arnell. I think a lot of us have been there at some time of our lives. I am glad my image conveys that feeling. It is just what I wanted for it. Especially because if you are in such a place, it feels so very oppressing and you would like the world to know about it. :cc

And also thank you Blue Bubble. The fact that you call the image strong, is all the compliment I needed. It is what I wanted for it. And I think you are right. It is working because of the Black&White. I did consider colouring it. But somehow it seemed wrong. The black & white gives a more grim feeling which belongs with the image.

My alternate version, btw, for anyone who wonders, was also monochrome, but with red&white. I will post that one too, but I think  the normal black&white works slightly better:

I am not sure about my Hermit after seeing all the wonderful cards.

To me, the Hermit has always stood for solitute, or the search for solitude, and the desire to just be quiet and learn.

The face is blurrier than on the original.  I need ti figure out why.

Great idea for a wonderful Hermit, Skad1 (are there more/other Skads?).

The face doesn't look blurry, just right. Seen through the window it shouldn't be sharply defined anyway, but a little mystery's always a good thing...:ro

We're getting there...

I think I found an idea for the King of Wands.  And it'll be easier than the others I have to do, so I might actually get it done!

So....

Hi everyone, here is The Fool, hope you like him and that he can join the wonderful deck that you have all created so far.

The Fool Card Description: The Fool stands precariously on the edge of the amethyst mountain. He  believes in himself and follows his heart, he will not slip. He gazes down at the new opportunities and challenges below him. He carries with him his worldly possessions and embraces the warmth of the sun on his back. His dog holds on tightly to his velvet coat in attempt to keep him steady on the crystal shelf, he whispers to his master “Be cautious”.

Card Meaning: New beginnings and opportunities but be vigilant look carefully before you leap.

Ok, here's the idea I had for the King of Wands.  Originally I was just going to have the single wand on the moon, with earth in the background.  Then i thought of the flag that was left up there and got a copy of it and attached it to the wand.  Then I realized that we are a multi-national group and some may dislike the American flag on our deck.  My first reaction was 'so what', but then I realized I wanted it to be better than that, so I came up with the second card.  Originally I was going to have the crown on the earth, but it just looked silly.

Changed the crown to be larger.

The card without the flag is much better IMHO. Not because it was a US flag in particular, though I think you're right about the one nation for multinational group thing - but because it implied an ownership and the King sort of doesn't. If you see what I mean.

Skad, the second card works beautifully - there's something enigmatic about the crown on the wand, a strangeness not present in the now familiar image of the flag on the lunar landscape. Trust the King of Wands to get to the Moon... :ro

Are all the cards really taken now? - wonderful!

Yes I much prefer the 2nd version for the King of Wands too...

I thought lulukat requested the last two cards yesterday, the Page of Coins and the 7 of Wands...on the other thread.

She did indeed.  I am really slipping here.  Well, I guess I DID get a card done, so I wasn't totally goofing off.

Wow, when we started this I really was worried that we would never finish off 78 cards.  And now it might be up to 80 cards!!!  (remember the title card and the Obsessive Collector And Incidentally Also Happy Squirrel Card)  I really love that name, it fits so well.

Wow, ya'll done good!

Okay, here is my final card...if it looks ok to you then I'll send the high res version to Blue Toy tomorrow. Thanks everyone! I love this wonderful, beautiful deck and being a part of it with you all!

10 of Wands Description: A woman struggles to carry 10 wands on her back. The wind is fierce and tugs at her while threatening to blow out her vulnerable candle. With determination and grace she keeps to her path and to the goal.
Meaning: A burden soon lifted. A feeling of tremendous pressure to complete the task. The sense of relief and gratification when this job is done will be substantial.

Warmly,
Arnell

Arnell, love your 10 of Wands, what a beautiful face the woman has. You can feel the movement of the wind against her back and you can feel her struggle to keep the candle alight. Love the background too!

Thank you for your kind words on The Fool, looks like my Fool and your lovely lady would make a good pair!

Arnell, love your Windflowers Ten of Wands (Waterhouse is one of my favourite artists). The wands sit so naturally on her back, and the candle looks as though it belongs in her hand. A candle in the wind and all that means. Beautiful...:ro

Thank you very much Pen. I’m a huge fan of Waterhouse too (as anyone can tell from looking at Transformational T.), but I felt a need to disappear all his lovely flowers from that scene as I needed it to look more bleak for this somber 10 of Wands and, not to mention less pentacle–ish....

I appreciate your feedback Blue Bubble. I quite agree your Fool and my lady would make a nice pair and it would sure cheer her and give her something to look forward to after her work is done to have a date with such a dashing gentleman! :D

Skad1, I agree with everyone else that the second card works best. There is indeed something enigmatic about the crown on that pole. It makes you wonder and think... wonderful.

And Arnell, again, such a wonderful card. I also love Waterhouse. And this image sure fits the 10 of wands so very well!

This is just going to be a GREAT DECK!!!

There are so many wonderful cards.  truelight I love your marionette, I think I like the red tone one better.  It's sadder.

I updated the hermit and King of Wands.  I decided I was making my life way too complicated, and I redid the Hermit, an I think it looks better.  I may make the person dimmer, but other wise I think I'll quit and try get the other cards done.

I have created a new list for the beginning the card thread to show not only who uploaded their cards, but who has filled out the lwb info.  I definitely like gregory's idea of a card section, then a bio section.  I tried to list all the cards uploaded, let me know if I missed any.

30 people are participating in creating this deck.  30 wonderful, awesome people.

Thanks Skad1 :tt

But now I am not sure anymore about which card to turn in when it concerns the marionette... again... lol. :fI just uploaded the black&white to BlueToy. But if most people think the red works better, I will go with that one. So please, some feedback from everybody please... :D I will go with the most votes...

Hi Truelighth,

Both versions are great of course...but personally (and at the risk of pissing off Skad1) I prefer the B&W one...feels a bit more bleak to me.

Here's my 9 of Wands, Death and Destruction, will it, or won't it?  I based the card on the Maya Prophecy of 2012 which says that the 5th world era will end when the sun is lined up with the center of the galaxy, on Dec 21st, 2012, and the destruction will involve fire.  The question really is, will there be a 6th era? All we can do is wait and see.  The background is the Milky Way galaxy, also known as home-sweet-home.

The glyph in the lower right is the date glyphs for Dec 21, 2012, the little glyph bottom left is a pronunciation of my name, rather than Sherry, it's a 'woman called CHE-YI'. The upper left has 2 Maya Gods, the top one is Chokola, the God of Chocolate.  He is here because, well, he’s the God of Chocolate!  The Second god is only known as Death God A, I'm sure he had a name, but it has been lost in time.  He seems to be enjoying the potential destruction.

I'm starting to read the clues.  Death by flaming chocolate.  It's been a long week.  I think I'm ready!

Skad,

Death God A is Alcohol ... which we all know can kill you if the chocolate doesn't

Skad1 I love your card, and as far as i know it's the first time the  Maya Prophecy of 2012 and chocolate  has been linked to 9 of Wands - so you get extra points from me lol :ok

death & destruction perhaps but there will be chocolate so that makes it more interesting :gi

...THE WORLD

It has always seemed to me, that the Nataraj, Shiva Dancing, is the original archetype....the symbol that inspired the Rider Waite trump,THE WORLD.

The Nataraj dances in the background. A bright orange sky (3rd chakra) bursts forth in the center...golden yellow(2nd chakra)warmth and power.

In the foreground, Silva is standing. She is holding a young one, among the people who have lost their homes due to flooding.  We have contributed to a home building project to help these people in a part of the world that is vastly different from where we live.

I've added a column for the High Res files to BlueToy on the master index thingy, on the other thread.   Now we can see at a glance who needs to do what.

Rather than making people go thru the entire thread to get info, I've added a new thread '2009 Collaborative Deck STATUS'  I'll keep the latest version of the checklist there, along with info how to send files to BlueToy, etc.

I rethought the god of chocolate on the 9 of wands.  After all it's not supposed to be a happy card.  Instead I added Paslam, the god of meteors.

Here is my 8 of Cups, done with magic markers and colored pencils....obviously, I have no respect for the "color wheel" whatsoever...I just use colors I like and see where it leads me.

Here's a nice poem to go along with it, which I think reflects the meaning of the 8 of Cups very well from the feeling weary and troubled perspective.

Hugs to All, Gayla

When the world is all at odds
And the mind is all at sea
Then cease the useless tedium
And brew a cup of tea.
There is magic in its' fragrance,
There is solace in its' taste;
And the laden moments vanish
Somehow into space.
And the world becomes a lovely thing!
There's beauty as you'll see;
All because you briefly stopped
To brew a cup of tea.

"If you are cold, tea will warm you;
if you are depressed it will cheer you;
if you are excited it will calm you."
~William Gladstone

This is my Ace of Wands which I created using a handy web based program call picnik.com.  I found a free color page of the wand and just played with it in picnik till I got this result.  It reflects my amateurish creative force and enthusiasm.:m

All the cards are so wonderful...I'm amazed and can't wait to see the whole deck.

Hugs again. Gayla

Dear Gayla,
I love your 8 of Cups, it's really lovely and charming as all heck...so sweet and darling. And the colors feel young and fresh. That poem is a nice addition too. I never took to drinking coffee, and I love the ritual of brewing loose leaf fragrant teas and they do lift my spirits so that really resonated with me.

That was pretty cool what you were able to create with that art program for your Ace of Wands. I've never heard of that program but your card came out just bursting with energy Gayla.

Hi Gayla,

Two very special and very different cards - love them both and all the surprises on this thread. The doll's bonnet looks almost like knitting and somehow lends that feel to the rest of the card too, and the picnik-created card is like an electric flower - fabulous. Can't wait to see all the cards...

Hi Ambriel,

I love both your cards, they are so different. Your 8 of Cups is vibrant yet delicate with the tea pouring into the cups, so unusual! The colours are bold and strong which I like. Your Ace of Wands has so much energy bursting from the card and the white images look like snow flakes which I adore.

Fantastic images and I loved the poem. My husband works in China and when he comes home he always brings me some amazing tea.

Thanks to all for the nice compliments :)...

I wasn't blessed with the ritual of having a nice, warm cup of tea until I joined the Army and went to Europe...a nice, warm cup of tea warms my soul...and I learned some herbal tea rememdies from my Turkish mother-in-law as well...

Ambriel, I absolutely love your 8 of cups. The tea is really a nice touch... I love it. And well.. you say you don't know the colour Wheel, but the Colours are just fine :ro. It is cheery and cute. Very lovely! And so different from the Ace of Wands. That one is cool too.. I also don't know the program, but it seems to work very well.

For your review, the Two of Pentacles.

Endless cycles of change.  The Maya Calendars are perfect for this card, the top one is the Long Count calendar, used to keep track from 0 (our 3114 B.C.) to infinity.  The bottom one is known as the Calendar Round, which is actually 2 calendars, the Tzolk (260 days) and the Haab (365 days).  Or Lunar calendar and Sun calendar.  They believed that time is circular, rather than our linear view.  Chokola, the God of chocolate, makes his appearance, because He likes Infinity.

Another awesome and lovely card - glad the God of Chocolate has returned! This style (meaningful symbols arranged beautifully on a plain background) is really distinctive and would make a fabulous complete tarot. It's just asking to be read too - something that doesn't usually call out to me.

Wow, thank you.  Your words mean the world to me because I consider you one of the best, your Pen Tarot will always be in my top decks.  Thanks again, and again, and again.

The Mayas were very interesting people.  The more I learned as I researched these cards, the more amazed I became.  Granted they had some very gory religious rites, but they held their beliefs whole heartily.  Many authors couldn't admit it but their timekeeping systems and astrological studies wer very, very advanced.  I always wondered what could have been if the Spanish hadn't destroyed their culture.  With their knowledge and the way technology has advanced, we would probably living out in outer space somewhere.

I was just looking at BlueToys compilation of our cards, and they are really wonderful.  I think what he's doing on the borders really ties all the cards together in a cohesive deck.  We are very lucky to have Ly doing this for us.

What an unusual vision for the 9 of Cups, Sacredashes.  It’s beautiful in its starkness. Being enchanted with spider webs, I was drawn into it.  Its great how you have the 9 hearts reflected in the droplets and how the spaces between some webs seem to almost trace out the shape of cups as well.  It’s a lovely image and enhances the mood of the 9 of Cups interpretation wonderfully.  I appreciated your write-up of this image on the LWB page too.

It is very lovely, Ash - especially the way the web is put together and the atmospheric feel of the whole that you do so well. I confess that I didn't see the tiny hearts until Arnell mentioned them - they're like a secret just waiting to be noticed... A fabulous addition to our special tarot. :ro

What an incredible Lightning - Tower card, Sumada! So intense and captivating. I love it! And your personal account in the write-up was also quite moving. I trust you are well on the road to recovery with your leg (as indicated in the image). Take good care Sumada and thanks also for sharing how you created this fantastic card.

Warmly,

I hate to say this, but the major reason the bottom one is larger is because there is so much detail on it.  The Long Count Calendar (top one) measures really, really long time periods, and was used mostly for religious reasons.  The time unit used by the Long Count was 5125 years, and was called a 'Great Cycle'.  The longest time period counted and named is the Alautun, which covers 63,081,809 years, approximately. :?  The Long Count is Linear.  The current flap about the Maya Prophecy of 2012 is because a cycle on the Long Count Calendar is ending.

The bottom calendar is really two interlocking calendars, there's the center one and a ring around it which is another calendar.

The Tzolk 260 days is believed to be lunar based.  We use a base 10 system of counting, but the Maya's used a base 20. (which means they counted on their fingers and toes! :? ).  The 260 days is based on 13 lunar cycles times 20.  Again, no one completely sure about this but it seems to be mostly likely way that the Mayas came up with the 260 count.
The Haab is a "traditional" solar based calendar of 365 days.  There were 18 months of 20 days, and an "extra" 5 days at the end of the year that were considered unlucky.

The Tzolk and Haab are called the 'Calendar Round" and was the calendar used by the people.  It records a time period of 52 years, then repeats, endlessly.  Remember the Maya perceived time differently that we do.  We think of time a linear progression, they thought of time as an endlessly repeating loop.  So once one period of 52 years ended, another started, all named.  They also had certain configurations that were lucky or unlucky.

There is voluminous amount of data available on the web about the Mayas, most saying much the same thing, tho, of course, there are the weirdos.  If you want to go into the calendar deeper, two good places to start are listed below.  Both sites have good links to other sites.  Believe me, you can spend hours and hours and hours ( and....) on the subject.  The more you read the more you want to know.  It is fascinating subject and endlessly frustrating that so much was lost at the time of the Spanish conquest.

I hope I didn't bore all the people who aren't interested.  Aren't you glad I was brief?  I could go on for hours!  Oh, and just a note of something really interesting, the Maya did not have the wheel.  Think of what they could have done with the wheel, how much western civilization progressed when the sun dial was supplanted by the watch or clock.  Western civilization didn't really start until we started moving around more, which was when wheels were invented.

wow! you are so generous..thank you for all the details! i was prompted to look up the kaliyuga on wikopedia, to see if there really is any mathematical connection between the k y and the mayan calender. (doesn't appear to be).

back to the card...2 of pents
one larger and one smaller pentacle might read as polarization... leaning heavily towards one side of the issue in question. there might also be a tendency to over do one thing at the expense of something else.

Phew! Thank you, thank you for the all the kind words Blue Bubble, Goldenweb and Arnell. I'll have to admit I was pretty apprehensive about posting my card after seeing all the other wonderful cards here. Sometimes I reach a point where I can't evaluate my own work anymore and start to get bored with it. (Familiarity breeds contempt) Knowing when to stop really is an art in itself too; I've stuffed things up by over working them many times in the past.

Anyway, thanks again, and now I can just relax and enjoy seeing the rest of this cool deck come together.

Cheers, Sumada

Hi there

Great thread. I saw a lot of great cards in here. On this page the tower is absolutely "whaooo". And I like the Nine of Cups too, very good idea with the net and the drops of water.

This is my part. The "7 OF WANDS". Lulukat asked me, wheather I could take it over, cause she´s got a lot of work in the moment. Hope you like it.

And the original size

I seem to remember reading someones treatise that although many of the older calendars are not related per se, they have many of the same predictions and characteristics.  I'll have to see if I can find where it was.

I may have put the Calender Round larger because it was the one everyone used, the smaller one was more for the religious elite.

Remember to check 2009 Tarot-CARDS  for the latest uploaded cards.

And post your card info and bio at 2009 Info for the LWB .

And, of course, check 2009 Collaborative Decks STATUS  to see if you’ve done all the steps needed.

On the 2009 Info for the LWB  thread there is a pdf that has to downloaded to look at, but it is the preliminary text for the lwb.  This is where you need to proof read what I’ve copied and make sure it is what you want.  For space reasons the generic description of the cards has been omitted, I’ve kept only what the card means to you.

this forum could be called Tarot Artistic Forum instead of collectors! With the exception of a few (like me), the majority are SO talented people/artists here! Looking through the cards there are so many exceptionally beautiful and artistic cards! Unbelievable!

well, I just had to share my enthusiasm :ce

Well, I don't consider myself particularly good, but it sure is fun.  Like Nocole says, I am grateful I can hang out with all the cool kids.

This card represents all we are fearful of.  But sometimes we make our own problems, we need to step back and re-evaluate.

All the new cards are great! Skad1, what a new and original take on the 5 of pentacles. Very strong!:ro It really made an impression on me. And I also really like your 2 of pentacles. It does make me wonder, you must have some thing for the Maya stuff eh?

And Ash, love the spiderweb with the little hearts. Very nice. Oh, and I noticed this:

sacredashes wrote:

9 of Cups
:hp Was thinkin' of nickin' this one too (:f) but I had to stop doing that. Its becoming a BAD habit!

Does this mean the latest 9 of cups of the Dairy was originally intended for the TCF deck? :cl I don't mind though, I think this one is great too!

Langustl, welcome to participating and thanks for such a wonderful card. I really like this 7 of wands. It has a bit of a 'caveman' feel to it for me. But I think it suits this card just fine. I dunno, when I saw the card I was thinking of early man and the first steps of making music. Maybe not what you intended, but it is what I imagined. Just sharing...

And Sumada, your Tower is sooooo Powerfull! WOW! I really like it. I think it makes a nice touch as well to have the Tree also struck by Lightening. Like a mirror of the Tower being struck. It is very cool! :ok

This deck is just gonna be awesome!

5 of pents, such an interesting and original card. love the layout and the text.

the recent addition of black and white cards sprinkled through out the deck, will be so novel, fresh and surprising to the eye when we thumb through each card, one at a time.

That's an impactful 5 of Pentacles Skad1. I can relate to feeling all those fears and anxieties about contemporary existence, and not always being able to step back from the constant onslaught of bad news. Seems rather bleak at times but there is also optimism or hope in the form of good deeds, art, laughter, love, etc. that can balance it out and keep us from throwing in the towel. Your 5 of Pents adds a necessary message to the deck.

Dear Friends,

Thank you for your kind words; I am very relieved you guys like the concept I came up with for the 9 of Cups.

All the cards for this deck are absolutely amazing.. the one that I am eyeing at is the puppet master (**nudge**nudge**truelighth... be forewarned, I am truly inspired to create a picture of the same theme! Betcha you're going...:ee now :gi)

rylla... The card I nicked off this deck for my own is the 4 of Cups... I couldn't resist stealing the 2 kittens for myself. It was originally meant to be The Chariot for TCF 2009 deck. Ypu did an amazing job with the 7 of Swords. To me its an image of the Shadow-kin because that's what they look like when they choose to show themselves to me.

Arnell, Pen, Blue Bubble, Langustl :ce

Always an honor to have such accomplished creators appreciate my work...:bl

skad1 & Bluetoy, you guys absolutely ROCK! The organization skills you've both shown in the making of this deck has been examplary to say the least.

P.S: skad1, my colleague who isn't into tarot says the imagery of your 2 of Pentacles card is awesome.

gregory, I like the 5 of Pentacles very, very much. The message is strong and the imagery quite relevent to the concerns of our era. Good job.

Last but not least, thanks to everyone involved in this project. It has been a very enriching experience for me and I must say, the co-operation and respect we have shown each other has changed my perception of community projects to a more positive outlook.

:tt to all,

Ash

That is just the greatest compliment I could have gotten, that my card inspires an artist like you. I love to see the result!:bl

I'm glad you like it - but feel I should point out that that was NOT a card I did.....:? (I did all the threes and the ACE.... which I don't think is especially relevant to any issues of our era.... I tend to avoid doing that so a card won't DATE....)

Now that I read it, it seems a bit silly. It was just the thoughts I was getting. I could just see early man sitting in that cave, all making music and discovering it.. ah well, sometimes I have a very vivid imagination. :cl

Hi Sacredashes

Although I am new to this forum I also would like to say a big thank you to everyone for making me feel part of the creation of this incredible deck. I am thrilled to have my card up there with everyone else.

There may be many miles between us but we all think along the same lines and that makes for a powerful thought.

There is so much talent out there...you are all absolutely amazing!

Love and light to you all

Um, I'm somewhat computer-challenged and need some help. The original e-mail I submitted of Judgement is the only method I have for submitting an electronic version (I scanned it at work...shhhhh, don't tell anyone!). I will need to do the same thing with the 9 of Swords.

Alternatively, I can mail the originals to someone who might be kind enough to do hi-res scans for me <bats eyelashes winningly>!:x

I just now got caught up - posted my two lwb thingies, and hopped on over here to check out the latest cards.....and WOW!!!!   You guys absolutely freaking ROCK!  :ok

I could spend all day responding to each one individually, so this group smooch will have to do! :tt

I will scan my second card at work on Monday and submit it.

Janet made two versions of the 10 of pentacles. I am working on the scanning but wanted to post both of her cards. It may depend on which one I can figure out how to get the dpi and size to scale but I love them both!

Thanks Nicole, for sharing the scans. I personally like version 2 the best. It has something magical about it. In version 1 I feel the planets/pentacles and the tree are kinda forced, like the images don't blend together if you know what I mean. And in version 2, I just love the tree... that one is just perfect to me.

Anyway, just my 2 cents...

hi nicole....i cast my vote for the 2nd version.... a light, whimsical and fun card!!!

how might you feel about eliminating the earth? the money tree by itself might be enough to represent the earth and all the earthly materialism we create and consume on our planet....there would be a 10 pents count.

again..not sure it is ok to critique visionary art...

Thanks!

I'm attaching the 9 of Swords, but I need some help!!

I mentioned before that I am somewhat cyberchallenged.  I scanned the hard copy to a .pdf, and then saved the .pdf as a .jpg.

Is someone out there in TarotLand willing to do hi-res scans for me from my hard copies?? Pleeeze??

Hi Kimber, I love your nine of swords....very potent.
I can scan your file from hard copy for you if you want to PM me, I'll send you my mailing addy. Or if you have use of a program like Photoshop all you need to do is resave that high resolution psd file as a tiff file (instead of a pdf file) and hopefully its around 300 dpi (dots per inch) resolution, yes? When you e-mail a 300 dpi tiff file to bluetoy, it will take a minute to send and you won't see it in your sent folder but he should be able to open the file in a program such as Photoshop. Psd files don't work well in e-mail but Tiff files are fine for that, even the high res files. Or you can send me the image to scan. My scanner is old and scans a bit dark so I have to adjust scans so I'm not your best candidate for this but I'd be happy to do it for you or walk you thru scaning and saving a tiff file if you have Photoshop (that's the only program I know well so...)
Please PM me if I can help Kimber. Great card!
Warmly,
Arnell

p.s., if arnell is able to open your file in photoshop, it should take a minute to save it as a tiff, and change the resolutions.

I appreciate your kind offer. I think I will try going to Fed Ex Kimko's this weekend to see if they can make good quality scans for me.

Love the 9 of swords, Manure Occurith could be my motto.

Deadline is fast approaching.  5 people are completely done, 16 cards have no actions yet.  New status lists are sorted by designer.

Start sending me your addresses so I can start looking into postal costs. So far shipping to US isn't bad, but shipping out of the States is crazy.  Anyone in Europe willing to receive a bunch of decks and ship them on to reduce shipping costs?

Cards and Info complete: acucent, goldenweb, Gregory, Nicole, sumada

No cards or info uploaded (number of cards in parenthesis):  blistersnbutterflies (1), Chronata (2), lulukat (1), Morwenna (3), Palestrina (1), Papoon (1), Quarkling (5), tantricknite (1), wvzookeeper (1)

:cs If anyone is going to pass on doing a card, now is the time to let us know!

Well... I guess I better complete mine.. I have the 4 of Swords done.. but not sure which version I want to use. So I will post all three :hp and see which one people like the most. So your opinion please. :kt

4 of Swords:

Idea behind the card is: the cat has been out all night.. wandering, hunting and all kinds of stuff. The sun has just come up and so it is now the time for the cat to rest, retreat and restore its energy.

P.S. I am actually most inclined to go with the cartoon like one, since it is different.

For me, definitely the cartoony one - not only different but very simply stylish and with great impact.

Well, since I seem to get the most votes for the cartoony 4 of Swords (and I think that one works best myself too), I decided that this will be my card for the TCF deck.

BTW, I had the one with the lovely sleeping cat on the bed ready for about 2 months, but it never felt completely right. Originally I had my own cat in that picture and then I was happy with it. But my SO didn't agree on our cat being on a tarot card, so I had to replace her. But the card just never felt the same. So I am kinda glad people like the cartoony one the most. The middle one was my pathetic attempt on drawing a live-like cat.... :gi:v

So here is my final 4 of Swords:

Here's my card (The Lovers). Image elements stamped with rubber stamps. Composited in Photoshop and then hand colored with colored pencils and markers.

Papoon, I love it - a wonderfully original take with the Yellow Brick Road, a choice to be made - this feels like such a celebratory deck!

papoon...i just love the nosey "yhentas," up in the corner right sky...they are always ready to influence the choice by imposing their intrusive opinions...its like a woody allen film.

At last my King of Swords is ready :f

Had lots of computer problems, could barely salve my half finished card, so without paintshop or phoptoshop only basic finishing where possible - so...have mercy upon me.:cs

This is my very first card from the Swords suit cards i've made, and with this year being the bicentenary of his birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication of his seminal work 'On the origin of Species', who was more fitting as king of Swords than Darwin.

A powerful idea and an image to match - perfect for the KoS - love the painterly effect and the way that the difference/originality of each new card compared to the rest never fails to surprise!

mr la-luna....a beautiful card...your King is just luminous!!! darwin is a perfect metaphor for this card.

brightly illuminated mind and dark, darker, darkness as we move to the bottom of the card. the brilliance of intellect alone can weigh down or immobilize the body, the action, the emotion.

Hi Scad1, I am wondering if the 7 of Sword that I already submitted could be changed with this one, if it's not too much inconvenience.

Thank you,

Pen, susi, and nicole, thanks so much for the kind words. When one is working on something, it's so easy to lose any sort of perspective on it. Your sentiments are much appreciated.

And as many others have said, this is going to be a seriously kickass deck.

Rylla-Send the updated version of the card to Bluetoy, and let him know you want to switch cards.

The 2009 collaborative deck seems to have been plagued with computer problems and, I swear, the recession timed it to have maximum impact.  I don't know if I should move the deadline back, or just leave it and work for the best.  I haven't had a chance to update the stats for acouple days, but there are still quite a few outstanding.  Quarkling sent his cards to bluetoy and me, but because of computer problems could not upload them to the forum.  I'll post them them tonight or tomorrow.  BlueToy has been plagued with power outages every time it storms in the Philippines, and it goes on.  Plus there are lwb and bio entries yet.  I'll update my list and start bugging people.

*bug*  *bug*  *bug*

(Does that mean I am buggy?)   :D :?

Hi everyone,
Trying to catch up a bit here as I had to leave town suddenly for a family matter for a few days rather unexpectedly….
I see we’ve gotten some great additions to our deck while I was away that I’m quite cheered to find here...
Really love your King of Swords, Mr LaLuna. That is a beautifully executed card and a perfect image and iconic figure for the King of intellect.

I am charmed by all 3 of your 4 of swords cat cards Truelighth, but especially like the ‘cartoon’ one which is adorable and hits the note perfectly.

Woah what a fabulous Lovers card, Papoon! Most intriguing and alluring and looking forward to reading your description for it.

I turned in my 3 high res cards and LWB descriptions as they were completed so I trust they are safely where they need to be even tho I’m not listed as being done, or that I’ll be PMed otherwise if I need to resubmit anything….
Many Thanks!!
Warmest wishes,
Arnell

Quarkling is having computer problems also.  He sent his high resolution files to BlueToy and myself, and I converted them to low res jpg to post.  Unfortunately the only thing I have that would convert them is the Microsoft View.  My apologies to Quarkling.

Final one of Quarklings.

I was just thinking (okay, I know :? ) I shouldn't have posted Quarklings cards and they could have been a surprise for y'all. Can you imagine flipping thru the cards for the first time and the Devil pops up at you!  Whooeee.  Enough to scare a person back into church.  (almost)

There is a new preliminary lwb posted as a pdf at the beginning the lwb thread.  You have to download it to look at it, but it would be a good idea.  Many of the posting may have to be shortened or the lwb will be a BIG white book.  And we are trying to save shipping costs, now aren't we?  I need to edit acouple of mine, where I got alittle too long.

Hi Skad1.. just had a look at the LWB.. it looks fine. I see I didnt really have to work and ponder so hard about the keywords...:gi

Btw, if I want to add something to my info (like for instance my name.. duh, why didn't I think of that before?), should I post it in the LWB thread or send it to you?

:qqOOps, I hope he doesn't mind.  I thought the "a" at the end was a feminine suffix.

Does anyone know starlightexp?  They are are also missing one card (5 Swords) and haven't turned in the lwb info for any of their 3 cards.

A general question.  If I haven't heard from someone, how long do I wait until I let someone else do their card?  They are a week and a half late now, is that enough time to let someone else work on it?

Chronata, they are wonderful!!! Well worth the wait.:ok

I just LOVE the Priestess.. the way she holds her finger like.. "shush, don't tell, don't talk".. so mysterious! And the 5 of cups just works great too, with the masks. Nice touch!

Ok, here's a question for ya'll...How long should I wait for a card to arrive?  How late is too late?  The cards were originally due July1st, them the deadline was moved to July 15 to accommodate people who needed more time.  But it's AUGUST 17th now, should I give up and let someone else do the missing card?  I've emailed, and originally got emails back, but now not even that.  i think it's rude to the people who did turn their cards in time, and some of them had only a week or two to work on it.

The missing bios will be left blank, and the missing card info will be filled in with a short r/w explanation.  (and a note to that effect)  To be honest, there aren't that many really missing, I had three people come back and say they had other conflicts and would not be able to complete them.  But that tells me where I stand with them.

To be honest, everyone had been really good, I am missing only one card.  I don't know how Ly is doing with the high resolution cards.  That last storm that went thru must have really messed up stuff over in the Philippines.  I am only missing 2 card's information, and 2 bios and 2 addresses.  I guess out of 78 cards, that's pretty good.

But what about the card missing?  How long do I wait?

Stupid question.. when was the last time you got a response from the person?

That is so rude that I keep assuming there must be a misconnect somehow..

you could paste the gray hairs you collected over this and scan them for the last card.. j/k

The last responce I received was Aug 4th.  and that was to say she was almost done, just writing the lwb stuff.

I am hoping it's a misconnect too.  Crossed fingers and all that.

As for those gray hairs.  I am ignoring!  They DO NOT EXIST!  no, nope, nothing there.  :bl  no way, no how  :n

In your place I would make ONE more conrtact to say if you do not have all three by x date (I would say the end of this week was entirely enough especially given the Aug 4 thing) someone else will be doing the card - and then just do that.

I agree with Gregory. Best to contact and give them one last week. But if it still isn't finished then, well.. there is a limit to how long you should wait. So in that case, the card should be reassigned. Anyway, just my 2 cents...

I owe you guys since I was... away/busy for a while. I dunno if this gets the cut since we haven't decided what the extra 2 cards will be for (I think Skad got a quote for 80 cards a deck), but... I have free time again and I made a title card :) or at least, a proposal for one:

It is lovely, BlueToy! :ok

As far as I am concerned, we include this title card with the deck. You can't beat a genuine BlueToy art piece :hp. Lets see what the others think...

Hey very cool Blue Toy. :ok

Love that Art Nouveau-ish look. I think it will make a wonderful title card.

Thanks from me also.
