I am trying to find information on the Dutch translations of Sendivogius which were published in 1627 in Amsterdam and in 1712 (maybe also 1718) in Haarlem. The first one is well known and mentioned in several bibliographies but I am still not sure which texts it contains (especially if it has _De sulphure_). The 1712 edition is more elusive but there is definitely a copy in the Ritman BPH collection. The orthography of the title is slightly different so I am not sure if this is just 18th c. evolution of Dutch or a typo. The subtitles do not differ even in one letter. The differences are: 1627: Cosmopolite, dat is: borgher der werelt 1712: Cosmopolite, dat is: burger der werelt Obviously, I would like to know if both editions are in the same translation and contain the same texts. I want to ask at the library but I am not sure where that part of the Ritman collection is now physically housed. I find it listed on the website of the Royal National Library: http://www.kb.nl/speciale-collecties/middeleeuwse-handschriften/de-kerncollectie-van-de-bibliotheca-philosophica-hermetica/voorlopige-lijst-gedrukte-werken-uit-de-bibliotheca-philosophica-hermetica but also in the catalogue on the wbesite of the Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica: http://www.ritmanlibrary.com/online-catalogue/ search author: [Sendivogius, Michael]. Ali Puli. Does anyone know? About the possible 1718 edition, I have found it listed in a printed Dutch catalogue from the 18th c. as: XII. Tractaten van den Philosophischen Steen, 1718, Haarlem, J. S. en Joh. Enschede, 8. The publisher of the 1712 edition was Izaak Enschedé, so this makes sense that his son Johann republished it. However in 1718 he would have been barely ten years old. There is, however, another book published in 1728 with exactly the same imprint, so I assume there is an error in the publication year and it should also be 1728. There seems to be no known copy of it in any library I have tried to search. Perhaps someone knows of a copy somewhere? |

Thank you Paul. The Haarlem edition(s) seems to be really elusive. |
