This book by Stefan Fischer is now available in an English edition.
It is a large and very heavy book with many high quality reproductions.
The text adopts a declaratory style, where Fischer lays down his views on Bosch and his paintings. This departs greatly in style from Stefan Fischer's wonderful, closely argued Ph.D. thesis on Bosch

'Der Garten der Lüste’ von Hieronymus Bosch. Ansätze und Methoden der Forschung,

which I found very informative as he there deconstructed the various interpretations, and presented much new material both on Bosch's life and the influences on his paintings.

I have not found his big Taschen book so engaging. He presents a view of Bosch and his work without documenting the route he has taken to his opinions. I was expecting to find something in the style of his earlier thesis, but probably the publisher persuaded him to write something more declaratory.

Drawing on his knowledge of history and faith, Central European University's Matthias Riedl offers a new interpretation of Hieronymus Bosch's famed triptych, The Garden of Earthly Delights.

"Evidently, in a closed condition, the triptych does not display much delight at all. What we see instead is a grayish pre-Copernican representation of the cosmos; the yet unfinished cosmos on the third or forth day of creation."
