Alchemy, Universal Medicine and Prolongation of Life

Registration is now open to the ‘Alchemy, Universal Medicine, and Prolongation of Life’ workshop, taking place at St Anne’s College, University of Oxford, on Monday 4th July 2016. There is a ‘star line-up’ of speakers and chairs: Bruce Moran, Stephen Clucas, Didier Kahn, Lauren Kassell, Tara Nummedal, Rafal Prinke, Hiro Hirai, Peter Forshaw, Jennifer Rampling, Natalie Kaoukji, Joel Klein, Tillmann Taape and Georgiana Hedesan. The workshop is sponsored by the Wellcome Trust and the Society for the Social History of Medicine.

The full programme is available at https://www.academia.edu/25728765/Alchemy_Universal_Medicine_and_Prolongation_of_Life_Workshop.

Registration to this event costs £25 and is open to a limited number of participants (maximum 19 persons). Registration ends on 30 June. Buffet lunch, coffee breaks and a drinks reception are included in the price. Accommodation at St Anne’s College for 3 and 4 July is also available separately on a first-come first-served basis. To register, go to http://www.oxforduniversitystores.co.uk/browse/product.asp?compid=1&modid=5&catid=523, or, alternatively, click on http://www.oxforduniversitystores.co.uk/, navigate to Short Courses > History Faculty > History Faculty Events > Alchemy, Universal Medicine and Prolongation of Life. Any further questions or queries should be addressed to the organiser, Georgiana Hedesan, georgiana.hedesan@history.ox.ac.uk.

The workshop also acts as a preliminary event to the larger Scientiae conference, which takes place from 5 and 7 July also at St Anne’s College. For information on this event, see http://scientiae.co.uk/oxford-2016/. Please note that if you also wish to attend Scientiae, you will need to register for that separately.

I attended it.  There were many of the usual people there, as well as some itinerants and new faces studying variou aspects of alchemy or subjects related to alchemy.  It was well organised and ran well.

I was there, too. It was nice to see you, Alexander. The workshop and the Scientiae conference following it (also with quite a number of alchemy-related papers) was indeed very well organised and a pleasant experience of meeting like-minded people.
