From Rare Books Review: On 9th December, the AuktionsverketAB Stockholms Auktionsverk will hold an auction incorporating some very interesting alchemical works, all of which are viewable in the online catalogue. Other notable items include a Scandinavia map by Ptolemaeus from 1486, Liber Chronicarum by Schedel and some other incunabulas and interesting 16th century prints. Also on offer is a the first edition of Kant’s Critik der reinen Vernunft, two fine celestial maps by Cellarius, and a letter from Napoleon. The alchemical books are from the collection of the pharmacist and bibliophile Gustaf Berndtsson (Bernström): http://www.auktionsverket.se/dbk/rdbk_oversikt.asp?d=2009-12-09&at=bk&sp=se&bm=C912&id=32205&snr=0 No. 6478, by the early Latin American (Peruvian) metallurgist Barba, is especially interesting. When Barba book was published, his experience from when he was sent to Peru, it seemed to divulge a little too much about mining to the taste of the Spanish crown ... hence the listing on the (Spanish) Index.
