Leafing through Private Book Collectors in the United States and Canada (10th ed., New York 1953), in the section ‘Lists by hobbies’, I noted these names under ‘Alchemy’ :

Edelstein, Sydney M. 11 Salem Park, Elizabeth NJ
Kelley, Louis D. 159 Elm St. Braintree Mass.
Shutter, John C. 2139 Gladstone Ave. Louisville, KY
Sy, Albert P. 219 Crescent Ave. Buffalo, NY
Trueb, H. N. 455 W. Arbutus St. Compton, Calif.

I thought it quaint to give your postal address like that, but I guess that in the early fifties, how else are you going to correspond with collectors with shared interests? Anyway, the first on the list bequeathed his collection :

The second last penned a painfully philistine paper for The Colophon in 1935, but for the whereabouts of his collection, I can’t tell.

Where did his and the other’s alchemica ended up ?

Fascinating. Just a wild guess: could it be the hermaphrodite (Mercury + Venus)?

Sy was Professor of Chemistry at the University in Buffalo and I imagine his books went to their library at his death.

Kelley seems to have been an interesting man:

"Dr. Gomatos inherited the collection from his godfather, Louis D. Kelley, a self-educated Greek immigrant who became fluent in ancient and Demotic Greek, Latin, French, and English. Kelley’s passion for language led him to acquire thousands of old and rare books from auctions, bookstores, and other private collectors."

The Edelstein collection contains a manuscript of the Crowing of Nature.

Jerusalem, Hebrew University, Sidney Edelstein Foundation Library. MS. 3.

Somewhere I have transcript of the alchemical manuscripts in his collection.

... seems to have made it to print, with Augurelle replacing Jean de Meung.
