I’m pleased to announce that the online cataloging of the books at the New York Society Library that once belonged to John Winthrop, Jr. (1606-1676) and his family is now complete.  Of particular interest to this group will be nearly 70 works on alchemy, several of which were formerly owned by John Dee.  A subject search here under “Alchemy – Early works to 1800” will bring them up.
To view the bibliographic records for the entire collection, search by author under “Winthrop Collection (New York Society Library)” or by call number: the prefix “Win” will retrieve them.
For information on access to these books and to all of our special collections holdings, see: http://www.nysoclib.org/collection/using-special-collections
If you happen to spot any typos or more serious errors in these records, please let me know!  I caught a few myself while I was preparing this message.

Hi Laura,

Congratulations on the completion of this project. Concerning errors, I notice that for Michał Sędziwój (Michael Sendivogius) you have incorrect life span. It was 1566-1636 -- the year of death is certain, the year of birth probable. See my paper: http://www.academia.edu/977421/Beyond_patronage_Michael_Sendivogius_and_the_meanings_of_success_in_alchemy

Best regards,

Rafal

Thank you, Rafal!
Unfortunately, the Library of Congress has established this form of Sendivogius's name and the rough date span as the standard way of listing him as an author or subject, so I must follow their practice for the sake of consistency.  I will, however, share your information with their cataloging department and encourage them to update their authority record for him.
