I found this image in Arthur John Hopkins's Alchemy Child of Greek Philosophy (http://bit.ly/zVtLQm), but I'd like to know where Hopkins found it. Any clues?

Thanks,

cae

I can't seem to find it anywhere in the standard books I have.

(sherwood Taylor, Reid, Holmyard)  Nor in the 300 or so alchemical emblems on Adam's site.  There is one mention of it online that i can find with a search, but they seem to have culled it from elsewhere and hosted it on their own or someone elses website and it isn't available.

It looks to be medieval, but I am not sure when.

Hi Chad,

It's from Leibniz:

Leibniz! Didn't see that one coming. (Like Alexander, I thought it looked medieval.)

Thanks much, Paul.

Yes, it has a distinct 'cloisters and gargoyles' sort of feel to it, but I think it was probably not an easy task for the typesetter and just came out looking odd.
