Kassel University Library Alchemy at the Kassel court: between speculation and experiment Exhibition of precious manuscripts on Alchemy of the University Library of Kassel in the Landesbibliothek und Murhardsche Bibliothek der Stadt Kassel. Exhibition 1 July - 3 December 2011. The Kassel alchemical collection is the largest of its kind in Germany. When Landgrave Moritz died in 1632, he bequeathed his library and 256 alchemical manuscripts in various formats, which are the property of the old national library, today preserved in the university library. The new temporary exhibition in the Murhardschen Bibliothek dedicated to the greatest group of manuscripts of this collection, the quarto manuscripts. Among these mainly educational and recipe books are a number of manuscripts richly illustrated with historical representations of the experimental setups and historical idea of transmutation.
