Following up on the articles in Portuguese I found an image which I already know from another version in the Ferguson Collection here in Glasgow. This is from Lyon, Bibliotheque Municipale. MS. Palais des Arts 88. La Generation et Operation du Grand Oeuvres pour faire de l'or. Apparently this came from the collection of the 18th century collector Pierre Adamoli. The image is interesting as it shows in the foreground a four headed green dragon fighting a red dragon. Behind this a miner is trying to release some ore, and a woman stands with a red child king. This is part of an elaborate series. It was published in a French edition a few years ago. Attached Image (viewed 1492 times): Last edited on Wed Dec 3rd, 2008 11:50 pm by adammclean |

"La Génération et Opération du Grand Œuvre pour faire de l'or" is still available in a modern edition: http://www.lemercuredauphinois.fr/data/pages_site/traitement_menu.php?id=7 - about half-way down. The study in Brazilian by Reno Stagni is available as a .pdf download here: http://www.sapientia.pucsp.br//tde_busca/arquivo.php?codArquivo=7779 |

Pierre Adamoli is the subject of a major study by Yann Sordet, L'amour des livres au siècle des Lumières, Pierre Adamoli et ses collections, préface de Daniel Roche, Paris, 2001, 537 p., (ISBN 2-900791-45-6). The Reno Stagni thesis is really interesting and includes illustrations of some rather fine coloured etchings in the Wellcome Library in London of the same images. Attached Image (viewed 1450 times): |
