Part of the RGME @ Conferences collection
Co-sponsored with the Societas Magica, this Session at 2024 ICMS addresses challenges of alchemical texts, their materials, and their uses.
"By the later Middle Ages, alchemy was a venerable tradition that had generate hundreds of texts that ranged from the practical to the mystical or aesthetic. Their forms ranged from laboratory notebooks or manuals, through alternate interpretations of practical manuals written in code, to lavishly illustrated manuscripts of both these types. This session serves partly to act as a spring-board for the project to produce a critical edition of alchemical texts attributed to Hermes Trismegistus. Also under consideration are studies of alchemical allegories and symbolism where text and image interact."
