Joos van Craesbeeck: the Young Alchemist - Paul Ferguson - 10-24-2024 Joos van Craesbeeck (c. 1605/06 – c. 1660) was a Flemish baker and a painter who played an important role in the development of Flemish genre painting in the mid-17th century through his tavern scenes and dissolute portraits. His genre scenes depict low-life figures as well as scenes of middle-class people. He created a few religiously themed compositions. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joos_van_Craesbeeck https://www.sphinxfineart.com/artistdetail/244046/joos-van-craesbeeck RE: Joos van Craesbeeck: the Young Alchemist - Paul Ferguson - 10-25-2024 This is only attributed to Van Craesbeeck, so may not be his work. He was a genre painter not a portraitist, but I wonder if this was a real person and, if so, what became of him. Aristocratically dressed, but few other clues. |
