Music: Thomas Adès - Alchymia

"Written in 2021 and ‘woven from threads leading out of the alchemical world of Elizabethan London’, each of Adès’ four movements takes a simple idea and transmutes it into something rich and strange."

Live performance in Manchester, March 2025.

Artist-in-Residence Thomas Adès’ most recent major chamber work Alchymia is the centrepiece of a concert for clarinet and string quartet, featuring Sergio Castelló López and Roberto Ruisi. Written in 2021 and ‘woven from threads leading out of the alchemical world of Elizabethan London’, each of Adès’ four movements takes a simple idea and transmutes it into something rich and strange.
