1. Frontispiece engraving. 153x98mm. In a laboratory a number of bubbles rise into the air from a crucible which is being heated on a furnace. Some of the bubbles are labelled "Sol Magicum", "Mercurius coagulatius", "Luna fixa", "Mercurius philosophorum", "Aurum Potabile", "Lapis philosophorum". Two have burst, "Sol" and "Alkahest Helmonti", and have stung an operator's eyes which he rubs. The three operators sing the notes of the scale in turn "Ut Re", "Mi Fa", and "La Mi". In the background an alembic is heated on a furnace. In the topmost right corner of the laboratory angels appear in clouds, one playing on a harp. They point down at the scene below and speak verses from the Bible about silver and gold.
This engraving was re-used as the frontispiece to Leonhard von Altenburg, 'Delarvatio tincturæ philosophorum', 1769.

3. Inserted before p125. Folding sheet with woodcut. 245x160mm. An alchemist who promised to make gold at Stuttgart but failed is hung on a high gallows. The text states 'he was elevated on the 2nd of April 1597, between the 9th and 10th hour.']
