Within the globe is a snake seizing its own tail in a circle, inside which is a hexagram with Solar disc above and lunar crescent below. The text around this is "Ternarium ab unitate ad unitatem ducito". This figure is based, to some extent on the seventh key of Basil Valentine. A variation of this was printed as item 2 in Barma, 'Saturnia regna', 1779.
2. Inserted after p292. Engraving. 143x77mm. A flask is placed within a flask and heated by a lamp in a cylindrical furnace. Above a phoenix burns in its pyre of flames. The engraving is entitled 'the use of the athanor'. A variation of this was printed as item 2 in Barma, 'Saturnia regna', 1779.]
