Prefixed to the present collection is a note in the handwriting of John Trittenheim, Abbot of Spanheim, and subscribed with his initials, from which it appears that it was transcribed by his order in the year 1487, from a volume in the monastery of Bingen, said to have been written by St Hildegard herself.
