Description:
Between 1469 and 1478 at the Court of Estense, the Italian Renaissance poet Matteo Maria Boiardo (1441-1494), Count of Scandiano, wrote a collection of 78 sonnets and 2 triplets conceived to accompany a set of special cards, in which the symbols of Love, Jealousy, Hope and Fear replaced traditional ones, then the deck was completed by 22 "triumphs" dedicated to historical, literary, biblical and mythological figures. Based on these poems and the emblematic iconography of the time, Maurizio Bonora created this set of images. Some of the "triumphs" relate to the familiar tarot images.
