France
Art Medium:
Pen and watercolour, possible with pastel, and the images appear to be aged.
Description:
The cardmaker Jean Pierre Payen (1683-1757)created a Tarot de Marseilles deck in 1713. Using this as a basis, Dominique Webb in 1984-86 constructed this contrived deck with the intention of demonstrating that there was some link between the writings of the mid 16th Century Nostradamus and the 18th Century tarot cards. Thus he reworked the Payen images to suit this thesis. The deck is sometimes also called the "Tarot of the Centuries" a reference to Nostradamus' famous cycle of prophetical verses.
