In his Vampire Tarot, Place adheres closely to Bram Stoker's novel Dracula (1897). The Major Arcana titles remain the same, with the exception of Mina - High Priestess, The Brides - Empress, The Count - Emperor, Van Helsing - Hierophant, The Wagon - The Chariot, Fate - The Wheel of Fortune, and The Madman - the Hanged Man. The Court cards depict historic individuals or fictional characters that are related to the vampire myth. Thus:- Sir Henry Irving - King of Holy Water, Lord Byron - King of Knives, Bram Stoker - King of Garlic Flowers, and Franz Liszt - King of Stakes; Pamela Colman Smith - Queen of Holy Water, Ellen Terry - Queen of Knives, Florence Stoker - Queen of Garlic Flowers, and Charlotte Stoker - Queen of Stakes; Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu - Knight of Holy Water, Samuel Taylor Coleridge - Knight of Knives, John Polidori - Knight of Garlic Flowers, and Edgar Allen Poe - Knight of Stakes; Carmilla - Knave of Holy Water, the Night-Mare of Life-in-Death - Knave of Knives, Lord Ruthren - Knave of Garlic Flowers and Ligeia - Knave of Stakes.
