Description:
The medical doctor, Shigeki Gomi, became rather engaged with tarot imagery in the early 1980’s and came to create three idiosyncratic decks, which he self-published. Being a physician, Gomi began his work in his Medical Fantasy Tarot by envisaging the human body organ structures as a reflection of the Major arcana. His Fool is the foetus in the womb; his Magician is the human digestive system, which transmutes food into life energy. Temperance is the balance of the circulatory and respiratory system, which absorbs oxygen from the air and breathes out carbon dioxide through the cycle of red and blue forms of haemoglobin. The designs for his tarot are primarily taken from a well-known American anatomy textbook of the time, 'The Atlas of Clinical Anatomy' 1978, which had drawings by Terry Dolan. These have been modified through the use of airbrushing.
