Art Medium:
Pencil drawings with some pen and ink.
Description:
Tribute deck to the horror fantasy fiction writer H.P. Lovecraft (1890-1937). This was issued in two editions - one in 1997 of 500 copies and the second in 2002 as an editoon of 1000. The artist was apparently not satisfied by the first printing which was in dark blue and which obscured some of the detail. The 2002 edition was printed in sepia tones. The imagery is almost totally based on the Lovecraft Cthulhu mythos and the traditional tarot elements for the most part consumed by the other imagery, even though it retains the structure of 22 majors and four suits of 14. The suits are Artifacts (Wands), Tomes (Swords), Sites (Pentacles), and Man (Cups). There are no recognisable court cards in the suits.
