Art Medium:
Etching.
Description:
A large single plate etching of a set of tarot majors, created with a simple line. Lanfranco Lanari is a well known engraver, primarily for his bookplates and book illustrations. He has won many prizes and has a high international reputation. He graduated from the Institute of Applied Art of Ancona and began a long period of intense artistic experimentation that moved from painting to graphic design and eventually decided to focus on the art of engraving. He then began to refine his etching techniques and from 1983 to the present day has created a large body of work. His work is characterised by very detailed lines. It is likely that this is an early work. It is marked as a proof copy and signed by Lanari. It is not certain that it was ever issued as an edition. It is essentially line art with no intermediate tones, printed with a reddish brown ink.
