There is another early film on line:

I've also got a reference to another Melies film 'The Hallucinated alchemist' (1897), but cannot find a copy online. Plenty of references to it.

I believe, Paul, that the still is from the segment 1:32 to 1:52 of «La Cornue Infernale» (1906); that is, that the movie's original title was «L’Hallucination de l’Alchimiste» (1897).
