"The Codex Gigas (English: Giant Book) is the largest extant medieval manuscript in the world. It is thought to have been created in the early 13th century in the Benedictine monastery of Podlažice in Bohemia (modern Czech Republic). During the Thirty Years' War in 1648, the entire collection was stolen by the Swedish army as plunder and now it is preserved at the National Library of Sweden in Stockholm. It is also known as the Devil's Bible because of a large illustration of the devil on the inside and the legend surrounding its creation."

The zoom function works well but requires patience!

The Codex is of tangential interest to alchemical students perhaps but "the manuscript has also fallen victim to the greed of two famous art collectors. In 1594 Rudolph II had it transferred to his castle in Prague. The picture of the devil titillated his hankerings for the occult. Half a century later, Queen Christina added the manuscript to her splendid library at Stockholm Castle."

There was an hour long documentary on this manuscript shown last year. I seem to remember it being on one of the Discovery Channel family.
