Does anyone know how to download a Google Books PDF in colour? Many of them are displayed in full colour but dowload reduced to black and white.

I noticed it earlier but b/w was usually fine. Now I found this copy of the first edition of Sendivogius from the National Library in Rome -- and when I download it, it loses colour:

The curious thing is, that I don;t see that book on "normal" Google, only on UK Google -- but the interface changes to Italian

Very strange. Maybe it's to do with the compression algorithm that Google use.
Can you download (or otherwise capture) the attractively coloured Polish Internet Library copy?

Yes, but I want the copy from Rome There are more exemplars now online and I collect them, so to say. The one on PBI is from the Jagiellonian Library in Cracow and has been online for quite a few years but in small resolution. I once asked them to put the higher resolution (which I know they have) online but they replied they could not find it! I cannot check it right now as the server seems to be down.

I think it is intended to work like this -- but I'll try. I have also found out that jpg's from the pages displayed are stored in the browser's cache but in a very erratic way and under random file names, so extracting any larger number of pages in this way would be very tedious.

| Could it be a security measure? I know Google want to keep things legal. I suppose someone could download the browned pages, bind them up in some old calf-leather and try and sell them as the real thing.

I doubt that would get past any book dealer.

No, but it might fool some mug on e-bay. I have seen such creations there and on some other auction sites.
