The major problem …
… for people involved in alchemical translation work usually is getting even a small return for their efforts. While one may look at this activity as a hobby, there is one drawback with this perspective: if hobbyists do it the amount of work getting done is small and the quality often questionable, as can be seen with many downloadable transcripts that are error-ridden. Before I translated the famous “Hermes Natural Path” I compared the transcript that was for years available on the web with the Fraktur original in the Bavarian state library and found no less than 200 transcription errors, including entire missing sentences .
Quality takes a lot of time – and not all of us are born with a silver spoon in their mouth. So the questions is not so much: should the effective and accurate translator be paid, but rather how can he make sure that after his work is done adequate income will be generated through booksales.
