Art in Translation is delighted to announce the publication of its special issue “Parchment, Parchemin, Pergament: 18th-, 19th-, and 20th-Century Authors on the History and Manufacture of Parchment”, which is now available to read here https://www.tandfonline.com/toc/rfat20/13/4?nav=tocList). Guest edited by Caroline Danforth (National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC, USA), this issue features four texts authored between the eighteenth and twentieth centuries on the history, manufacture, and use of parchment, and marks Art in Translation’s first venture into technical art history.

Please join us in celebrating the publication of this special issue, which is sure to be of interest to art historians, medievalists, conservators, and parchment makers alike, at a virtual launch on June 21, 2022 (7:00PM BST/2:00PM EST).

The line-up of speakers is as follows:

1) Iain Boyd Whyte (The University of Edinburgh, UK)
2) Caroline Danforth (National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC, USA)
3) Gay McAuley (Translator of the Jérôme de La Lande text, Royal Holloway, UK) and Jiří Vnouček (Manuscript conservator, Copenhagen Royal Library, Denmark)
4) Abigail Quandt (Senior Conservator of Manuscripts and Rare Books, The Walters Art Museum, Baltimore, USA)
5) Matthew Collins (Niels Bohr Professor, University of Copenhagen and Professor of Biomolecular Archaeology, University of Cambridge)
6) Megan McNamee (Lecturer, History of Art, The University of Edinburgh, UK)
