|
I would be interested in gathering some information on, and sources for, those amazing alchemical illustrations that appear in a few arabic and Persian manuscripts usually from the 17th and 18th centuries. Are there any modern books with good quality images?
Here are examples of two illustrations from a 17th century arabic manuscript. Somewhere I have some images of Persian manuscript illuminatiion, which I will post later.

I just found, in a German book on the history of chemistry, two images apparently from a 14th century arabic manuscript in the University library in Pavia, Italy. These two illustrated folios seems to show people making a herbal preparation from the flowers of myrrh. Although not alchemical as such, the graphic style of this image may have influenced the later manuscripts I have seen with more alchemical imagery.

Myrrh is traditionally used in the Middle East by diabetics - it is believed to improve glucose tolerance.
