I have come across several references in Theosophical literature (not, I admit, always the most reliable source of information) to a History of the Rosicrucians by a Professor Lauteo. I have checked in the usual places (e.g. WorldCat) but cannot find any mention of it.

Hi Paul,
I have contacted the librarian of one of the major TS libraries. He has also checked the Internet with no success, and will be looking in the physical library this weekend.
Will let you know more later.

The earliest mention I can find is in the Theosophical magazine Lucifer Vol. II No. 9, May 1888, and then it just seems to have gone viral from there:

I have had this reply from my contact at the TS in Amsterdam:
"Last Saturday i looked for several hours in the library, but did not find the requested information.
Sorry. But after reading the original page from Lucifer I thought maybe the Karl = Karl Kiesewetter had something to do with it? He also wrote some articles about rosicrucians.
Also there no leads to Lateo. Do you think the name is not written in the right way? The title (history rosicrucians) shows also the name of A.E. Waite and Hargrave Jennings.
I hope you will find out if the reference is a true one, not a fake title/author, like books as the Necronomicon from Lovecraft."

Thanks Alan and also to your Dutch colleague.
Lauteo is certainly a pretty strange surname. It struck me as possibly a Westernisation of a Chinese or other oriental name (e.g. Lao-Tiu?).
Assuming the name was incorrect I have also searched for Lauter, Lanteo and other possibilities without success.
Shame because it's a book I would very much like to have read :o(

PS Do you have Gardner's Bibliotheca Rosicruciana? Could it be mentioned in there?

Paul, what about the second volume of Wolfstieg (published in 1912) ?
Or maybe asking to Ch. McIntosh, or Carlos Gilly. Between the two of them, you should be able to get something.
