"This paper explores how Gaffurio’s “The Music of the Spheres” illustrates both the Pythagorean musical theory that the image was originally created to illuminate, as well as the alchemical symbolism and relationships between Apollo, the Three Graces, the nine Muses, and each of the Muses individual association with a particular art, a particular pitch in the Western A minor scale, a Greek musical mode, a metal, a god, and a celestial body with its related musical frequency caused by the motion of its revolution."
