  Empyrean Heaven
Posted by: Adam McLean - 09-10-2023, 06:03 PM - Forum: Alchemical symbolism and imagery - Replies (1)

Coloured engraving of the "Interior or Empyrean Heaven," from Ebenezer Sibly's A Key To Physic And The Occult Sciences, published in London in 1794.
It derives partly from one of Khunrath's images.

  Alchemical interior by Teniers
Posted by: Adam McLean - 09-10-2023, 05:59 PM - Forum: Alchemical symbolism and imagery - No Replies

Here is a rather fine view of a supposed alchemical laboratory. It is in Teniers' finest quality style. He often made rather poorly finished paintings, possibly for his less wealthy clients, but this is his best quality. Most of his familiar pictorial elements appear here.

  Apologies
Posted by: Adam McLean - 09-10-2023, 01:57 PM - Forum: News - Meeting - Events - Replies (1)

My apologies for having neglected the forum of late.
I have had a number of difficult situations to deal with recently, which needed my attention.
I hope to find more time to read over all the recent contributions and perhaps make some postings of my own.

A Turkish Alchemical Treatise by Āshıḳ Pasha
Posted by: Paul Ferguson - 09-10-2023, 12:29 PM - Forum: Articles on alchemy - No Replies

"Āshıḳ Pasha... was one of the most prolific poets of his era. He left behind a great number of written works in verse. Although almost all of his works deals with Islamic mysticism, his treatise Risāle-i Kimyā (“The treatise on alchemy”), is a significant source on alchemical knowledge written in Old Anatolian Turkish."

The Sacred Science of Alchemy and the Black Madonna
Posted by: Paul Ferguson - 09-10-2023, 12:18 PM - Forum: Articles on alchemy - No Replies

"Out of the blackness of cosmic midnight the Primal Mother birthed the seeds of creation, the Primal Mother on whose lap all creation exists, also known as the Black Madonna. Her blackness represents the womb of the unmanifest quantum field from which all of creation arises and into which all of creation will eventually dissolve."

The Strange, Secret History of Isaac Newton's Papers
Posted by: Paul Ferguson - 09-10-2023, 12:02 PM - Forum: Reviews and book notices - No Replies

"The story of Newton’s writing and how it has survived to the modern day is the subject of a new [2014] book, The Newton Papers: The Strange and True Odyssey of Isaac Newton’s Manuscripts. Author Sarah Dry traces their mysterious and precarious history and reveals both the lucky twists and purposeful turns that kept the papers safe. We spoke to Dry about the famous luminary, his beliefs both rational and not, and the different ways that people have thought about Newton throughout history."
