Description:
Takashi Kitami is a well-known painter and illustrator with a distinct style for drawing the human figure. His work spans the world of fine art and graphic illustration. He has had many solo exhibitions and much commercial success with his book covers, etc. Kitami's figures are distinctive in that they are elongated with small heads set on long necks. He seems to adopt this style for all his artwork, which makes his work immediately recognisable. Here he creates a tarot in this inimitable style which was given away free with a magazine. The artwork was the basis for his World of Tarot exhibition in January 2005 at the Span art gallery, Tokyo. The images appear to be based on an early French deck, perhaps the Oswald Wirth tarot.
