Ann McCoy
Ann McCoy was born in Boulder, Colorado in 1946. She is of Irish Catholic descent and this often informs her work. She is deeply studied in alchemy, and many of her large wall sized drawings in coloured pencil have alchemical themes. She is much influenced by Jungian ideas on alchemy.
In 2008 she created the Pfaueninsel Castle project, eight large artworks in watercolor and pencil on paper. This arose from a journey she took to an island off Berlin called Pfaueninsel (Peacock Island). The island was the home of Johaan Kunckel an alchemist who made red glass. There is a rather good article on the Pfaueninsel Castle and the fairy tale, or alchemical allegory, she wove around it.
