Magnum Opus Hermetic Sourceworks Series This series of limited edition hand-bound books by Adam McLean were initially produced between 1979 and 1986. They were never sold through book dealers, but only by direct mail order. Consequently, these books became collectors items, often fetching high prices on the second-hand market. Only a few copies remain of some of the older titles in this series and a number are now entirely sold out. Since 1997 thirty new titles have been issued with more in preparation. No. 51.The Generation and Operation of the Great Work Edited by Adam McLean I first came across this 18th century work in the mid 1980s when I was researching and studying the alchemical manuscripts in the Ferguson Collection. Some months ago I decided that, as this was one of the few remaining alchemical emblem sequences which I had not yet published, I would make an edition for the Magnum Opus series. The text presents a view of the alchemical process which somewhat diverges from the established one, or at least approaches this from a different perspective. The author of this work, however, seems not to have been focused on a written explanation of his alchemy, but on showing us the process through an amazing sequence of twenty one emblematic images. Limited edition of 100 signed and numbered hardbound copies. 21 coloured illustrations. A5. 53 pages.
